Creating a mood board is a fun and effective way to streamline the look of your wedding and ensure that all of the visual aspects of your day are cohesive in look and feel. Here are some steps to creating your own wedding mood board!
Consider how you want your day to feel. Make note of words that convey the feel that you want for your day. Examples of words are; romantic, lush, fresh, sophisticated, elegant, modern, rustic, classic etc. These words should reflect you as a couple, your values, and what would feel authentic to you and your taste.
Start collecting images that will act as inspiration, using the words and overall feel you want as a guide. Inspiration is everywhere! Some great places to find images are in magazines, books, Pinterest, Instagram, or even interior design blogs.
Are there certain themes or colours that a lot of your imagery have in common? You can look at materials, textures, patterns, florals and even background scenery.
Choose 3-6 colours that you want to include in your visuals. These will act as a colour palette to choose from through your design. I also like to consider the proportion or percentage that I think each colour should take up visually.
Begin removing photos that no longer align with where you see your design going. You will want to remove photos that don’t fit in, keeping images that portray the feel you are going for. The images don’t need to be literal. The key is to evoke the general theme or direction by looking at the collection of images as a whole. Remove images until you have 4-9 that fully convey your design intention and include your colour palette.
